Friday, April 24:
6am - Leave church in the morning via charter bus
10am – Tentative White House tour (see note below) – we will leave Appomattox later if White House tour does not happen at this time (at 8am)
12 pm - Lunch
2 pm - Visit the National Archives to view the original Declaration of Independence and Constitution among other important historical documents
3:30 pm – Check into hotel (Grand Hyatt, Washington, DC)
4 pm – Free time and dinner on your own (the hotel is at a central location with many restaurants around)
6 pm - Regather to go to Ford Theatre
7pm – Attend the inspiring musical 1776 at historic Ford's Theatre —a vibrant, Tony Award-winning retelling of our nation's founding debates (no children under 5 allowed in Ford’s Theatre, this play is suggested for children 10+)
Saturday, April 25:
7am – Breakfast
8 am – Start at the Washington Monument then Reflecting Pool to WWII → Vietnam → Korean → Lincoln Memorial (1–hour). Then loop south to Martin Luther King → FDR → Jefferson around the Tidal Basin (another 1 hour) per time/weather permitting.
10 am - explore the Smithsonian National Museum of American History
12:30 – Lunch
5:30 pm - Arrive back to Appomattox
Cost:

$72 per person for ticket for show at Ford Theatre “1776”
$250 hotel per room (Grand Hyatt)
$25 per person for breakfast at hotel

**the only place of cost saving is the room which can have a maximum of four people. All other expenses are per person.
** If you have children and want to opt out of “1776” that is doable

Possible Private White House Tour
Special Note: We may receive a private White House tour on the morning of April 24th. This is not guaranteed, but it is possible. We have entered a lottery, and White House tours are given at random. However, when these slots open, interested individuals must be prepared to present identification ASAP. If you are interested in taking a White House tour (on an undisclosed date), you must submit a copy of your Real ID driver’s license or passport. Once slots open, your identification will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and once the available slots are filled, that will be all who are admitted. If the White House does not offer us April 24th, another weekday will likely be provided, and those who want to make a special trip to the White House on their own will be able to take advantage of this opportunity. Once the details are clear, the church office will contact you to confirm if the date/time works for you and to request if you want us to submit your identification for White House tour.
