Liberty Baptist Church Blog

An Unorthodox Guest

Recently, Liberty Baptist extended a helping hand to a visitor needing a home.  It all started one sunny November Sunday as church members poured into the sanctuary. Only a few people noticed the quiet, friendly face by the front doorway. She waited until everyone else had entered, then she slipped into the warm room. Pastor Rusty was just getting settled into his sermon on the Psalms when she suddenly walked across the carpet in front of him. “And there goes a cat!” observed the pastor in disbelief. All eyes turned to see a feline in a calico coat scanning the crowd. Several gentlemen rose to escort her out of the spotlight, but she came to a surprised Tom Kellogg and jumped into his outstretched arms. Tom released her outdoors where, he says, “she followed me around the building about three times.”

Hoping she would wander back home, he rejoined his wife, Earlene, among the congregation. But the cat was still waiting when the couple returned to church that evening, so they decided to invite her to the Kellogg home.  Their offer was eagerly accepted.

The cat is the eighth member of the Kellogg family, sharing shelter with two other cats and three dogs. Tom says she’s fully enjoying herself there.  They call her Libby. “It’s short for Liberty.”
