The Wondrous Gift is Given

Tonight's performance of the cantata "The Wondrous Gift Is Given" really made me forget I was in the small town of Appomattox.  It felt more like a professional Christmas production, but then again, so do all Dr. Mark Landry's musical productions!

The music was a wonderful blend of songs--I loved the way it incorporated old hymns, like "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus," with the twist of new words and pieces.  The choir sounded spot-on, which perfectly highlighted the dramatic action taking place.  The children's ensemble did a great job, too, with Daniel Poole singing a beautiful solo.

The actors also did a superb job, from the angels to the shepherds and magi, to Mary and Joseph.  Olivia and Jay Anton (Mary and Joseph) did a great job of making the baby Jesus seem real, even though--shhh!--he was just a doll.

The orchestra is always amazing to watch and hear.  It brings such a sense of culture to our church productions!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the narrator, David Gilbert.  He did a great job and is also rather cute.  I can say this because he is also my husband!

We hope you will all be able to join us for the December 19th performance of Handel's "Messiah" at 7:30 pm at Liberty Baptist Church.

Heather, thanks for your gracious comments. I appreciate all your kind words. By the way, I think you\'ve got a thing for the narrator! Hmmm...?
